Following the incidents that took place in China and Australia and sent people to hospital after using counterfeit chargers for iPhones, people at Apple have decided to take action and started a program called USB Power Adapter Takeback Program.

As of August 9, in China, and August 16th in the entire world, Apple Company will give iPhone owners the possibility to replace a fake charger with an original one priced at just $10. All users have to do is to go into an Apple Store or authorized reseller, along with their Apple device and fake charger, pay $10 and go with the original one.

Recent reports have suggested that some counterfeit and third party adapters may not be designed properly and could result in safety issues. While not all third party adapters have an issue, we are announcing a USB Power Adapter Takeback Program to enable customers to acquire properly designed adapters. Customer safety is a top priority at Apple.

Apple employees will be able to check if charger owned by you is counterfeit or a made by a third company and complies with the Apple standards, but the replacement will be made in any conditions. Program initiated by the Apple Company is run until October 18, 2013, so there is enough time for anyone who wants to have an original charger that will not electrocute you. To be honest, the Apple idea is very good, their original chargers are more expensive anyway, so if you have an old charger or fake one, it would be better to visit an Apple reseller and buy an original one.
