Yesterday developers received notification of a new build of iOS 6.1, this new release comes less than two weeks after the first beta was released, at the same time Apple also released a new preview of Xcode 4.6, and new beta software for the Apple TV.

The new firmware is compatible with the fourth-, third- and second-generation iPad, iPad mini, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, and fifth- and fourth-generation iPod touch.

According to Apple Insider “the latest build enhances the Map Kit framework in iOS, allowing developers to search for map-based addresses and points of interest.”

Of course since this is still a beta software, there are several known issues, with the update, which is why it is really only recommended for developers. People who tested the first beta of iOS 6.1 say the software runs relatively smooth however there seems to be some issues with crashes when using the camera’s panorama mode.

The new iOS 6.1 Beta can be downloaded from Apple’s Developer site.
