Lately it seems as if everything Apple touches turns to gold, well the new iPad seems to be no different, just days ago Apple announced that they have sold three million units of the new iPad. This comes just less than a week since the iPad first went on sale. For comparison, it took Apple a little bit over a month to pass the one million mark for the first-generation iPad.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:

“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold?the strongest iPad launch yet. Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”

Apple has also reaffirmed that more countries will see launches of the new iPad this upcoming Friday, March 23. These sales will begin at 8AM local time in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
