Siri has definitely been one of the best features that Apple has put into in its iPhone series as it is unique only to the iPhone 4S but with each new device coming out each year, there is bound to be something new that distinguishes the devices that Apple make with all the other smartphones in the market. Apple does have something in mind and it involves facial recognition.

A patent was filed by the Cupertino company regarding a multi-user facial recognition feature on which will most probably be implemented on the iPad as it is considered a multi-user device. This particular facial recognition patent is unlike any other as it is considered energy efficient which is a good thing considering that facial recognition requires a lot of computational power. Apple reroutes this problem by focusing only on a few features on the human face like the nose or the eyes for example. By focusing on only these features, significant amount of resources could be saved.

Apple plans to combine this with a few other sensors on future iOS devices so that the facial recognition feature could be activated instantly when a person get in close contact with the device. This would speed up the process as well. This is definitely a great feature to have and would definitely be interesting to use as well.
