Wow this comes as a shock, Apple executive Bob Mansfield  has been demoted and is no longer a member of the company’s executive team, while Mansfield hasn’t exactly been fired, he has been reassigned and is now working on “special projects” for Tim Cook. Readers might remember that Mansfield was  previously responsible for leading the new Technologies group.

According to AllThingsD Apple had the following comment:

“Bob is no longer going to be on Apple’s executive team, but will remain at Apple working on special projects reporting to Tim,” company spokesman Steve Dowling told AllThingsD. He declined any further explanation, refusing to comment on the reasons behind Mansfield’s abrupt demotion or whether Apple plans to appoint a new SVP of technologies.

Mansfield first joined Apple in 1999 and has worked on many of Apple’s biggest products such as  the all-in-one iMac, unibody MacBook, Retina display, and the ‘A’ series mobile processor.
