Happy New Year 2009!!!!!!!

As 2008 comes to a close, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your readership and support during whatsoniphone’s first six months.

Dimitri, Ron, and I, first conceived of this website sometime before the opening of the App Store. We assumed that if Apple were to create an easy to use system for the distribution of iPhone and iPod Touch applications there would be a flood of creativity in the development world resulting in a wave of applications the scope of which has never before been seen.

From the countless hours initially designing the site, to the weeklong marathon to populate the site with the initial 500 applications, whatsoniphone has been a labor of love.

In the first six months, we have posted over 500 blog posts, ranging from news and tips to application updates and sales.  We reviewed hundreds of applications (which we hope have been helpful in deciding which were worth buying.) and we’ve had a great time doing it.

The site, however, is nothing without you, our readers and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you.

Among the initial goals when first starting What’s On iPhone this past June was the hope that the site would quickly become a helpful resource for everyone. To that end, we wanted to let you know about some of the new things you be seeing on the site.

1. We are thrilled to have a number of new writers joining us to help us better cover the ever-growing world of iPhone and iPod Touch apps. All are iPhone and iPod Touch enthusiasts and we look forward to introducing them to you in the coming days.

As I posted a few days ago, beginning tomorrow one of our new writers — Jennifer —   will begin sharing her experience as a new iPod Touch user. The touch she has been using for the last few months has been formatted and Wayne (her normal "tech support") will no longer be offering any assistance in this particular area. Jennifer is all on her own… except for all of you.

She’s going to have questions and will be depending on you to provide the answers. In so doing we know that many new Touch users will benefit.

To help Jennifer, and all the other new iPhone and iPod touch users, We created a new forum area called "Q&A". If you have an iPhone or Touch-related question, post it! If you have an answer to a posted question… share it!

2. "Steals and Deals" is another new forum. If you come across a great deal on an iPhone-related item don’t keep it to yourself… Share It!

3. Our circle of Twitter friends has grown significantly. We will continue to update you on each new post. In addition, there will be ongoing opportunities to receive promotional codes to some of the many applications we review. Some will be announced on the website itself but many will be specific to those of you who follow us on Twitter. In that way, we hope that your having Twitter-friended" us is of even greater benefit to you as an iPhone/Touch user.

4. Now that Apple has removed most of the non-disclosure agreements between Apple and iPhone application developers, the creative individuals behind those applicatiobs are finally able to talk openly about their experience and plans. In the new year we look forward to inviting a wide range of developers to share their experience developing for this newest computing platform.  In addition, we will have the opportunity to actively engage them in our forums.

if you are a developer and would like the opportunity to share your story or discuss your application, please contact us through the contact tab at the top of this page.

Most of all we once again want to take this opportunity to thank you for your readership and support. Happy 2009 everyone.
