Some folks have discovered that the Golden Master version of iOS 5 that was released to developers on Tuesday doesn’t require a developer account to install as previous version have.

Remember than anytime you leave the beaten path of Apple Software there are potential risks, so do so at your own risk.

Step 1 – Install iTunes Beta

Now then, the first step is to obtain and install iTunes 10.5 beta 7 which you can find here

Step 2 – Download the iOS firmware

Next you will need the appropriate iOS software for your device.

Download iOS 5 GM for iPhone 4 (GSM)
Download iOS 5 GM for iPhone 4 (CDMA)
Download iOS 5 GM for iPhone 3GS
Download iOS 5 GM for iPad 2 (Wi-Fi)
Download iOS 5 GM for iPad Wi-Fi + 3G (GSM)
Download iOS 5 GM for iPad Wi-Fi + 3G (CDMA)
Download iOS 5 GM for iPad 1
Download iOS 5 GM for iPod touch 4G
Download iOS 5 GM for iPod touch 3G

Step 3 – Install your software

AFTER BACKING UP YOUR DEVICE you simply hold the Alt key (or shift key if you are on windows) while clicking the restore button. iTunes will then prompt you to locate the .ipsw file that you downloaded earlier. Then the restore will take place and you can go get some coffee.

Once it is done it will prompt you to restore from a backup and then it will sync.

Congratulations you now have iOS 5!
