iPhone 5 Pre-Order Reaches 200,000 from China Unicom

While the iPhone 5 is already available in a lot of countries already, the same cannot be said about China. The eastern country has yet to receive its batch of iPhone 5 but that does not mean that the device is not open for pre-orders. As far as Apple is concerned, the demand is sky high considering that China Unicom alone has a pre-order of 200,000 units already. In fact, China Unicom had 100,000 pre-orders on the first day alone.

China Unicom certainly has some interesting iPhone plans as compared with countries such as the United States. The carrier is offering a full subsidy over the iPhone 5 but the subscriber will first need to pay quite a sum in terms of deposit. In fact, to get the 16GB version, subscribers will need to fork out at least $947. This sum will then be refunded slowly in the following months. This is different than in the U.S where the up-front cost is smaller but with a cancellation penalty present.

All in all, it seems that China is still a lucrative market for Apple. 200,000 units is a lot of money and it shows the presence that the company has in China.
