The announcement that Amazon launched a new iPhone optimized site for the Kindle Store was a terrific step in the right direction for iPhone-carrying Kindle owners. What i did not pick up on, but 9to5 mac did was this interesting little tidbit…
Because the new web portal goes straight to Amazon’s site Apple will get exactly zilch for every book sold through it. Yup, Apple’s 30% cut from anything and everything sold via an iPhone app isn’t going to happen here.

It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to the book apps situation. Steve Jobs famously said that people don’t read anymore, that’s why Apple won’t build an eBook reader.
