Phoneclean 2 – Free up space on iPhone & iPad

The lack of an SD card slot in iOS devices is a major left out and this makes each megabyte on our storage extra special. As such, an application like PhoneClean 2 claiming to free up space on your iPhone or iPad is always welcome. This is what the developers have to say about their product:

PhoneClean is uniquely designed to reclaim more free space on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and make all iOS devices running faster. Working on both PC and Mac, this free-yet-magic tool will safely remove all kinds of useless files on iOS system in order to clean up and speed up your iDevices.

Download and install the software for free from this link. Plug in your device and open up the app to automatically recognize it. Tap Start Scan to find how much space you can free up, sorted into Temp & Junk files, Cache & Offline files, Cookie & Script files and Sync failed Media files. All apps with such waste files can be accessed and toggled if necessary.

Now, to the main question. Does it really work? Can it take out the trash from your device? Well, here is how things went for me. I tested the software with 3 devices and the results were as follows:

My iPhone 4 – 80 MB

My iPad 2 – 391 MB

Bro’s iPhone 5 – 98 MB

I found out that the figures are right as it does free up the calculated space from your storage. As you can see, the results are variable and it doesn’t quiet reach the limit they claim (the demo video showed cleaning a 2GB margin). I know results change from device to device but, 80 MB is too low a space to free up after going through all this trouble. On the other hand, an additional 400MB on my 16GB iPad surely makes a difference.

So, the hard choice of whether to go for it or not, is really up to you. If you are a person dying to clear some space, it is, of course, worth a shot.
