Pocket Informant Update

I thought I would post a quick update on the much anticipated upcoming release Pocket Informant from WebIS.

The good news is… it is coming VERY soon. The bad news (which isn’t so bad) is that I don’t have a date to tell you.

I can, however, tell you that…

the most recent build I am running is super stable, syncs quickly and is incredibly useful. I’m only sad I can’t run the beta version on both my iPhone and my Touch.

Beta testing the app has given me some insight into the complexity of building a great app that depends on other services for sync. Alex and his crew have been working incredibly hard to make sure that PI syncs quickly with both Google Calendar and Toodledo. Morever, they have not only optimized the sync but ensured that it is a stable process even when there is a large amount of data. Thankfully they have done just that but it has taken some additional time.

Compare this to Amazon’s recently released, and super fast/stable Kindle app and a number of significant differences emerge. First, it is one thing to sync a number of books between devices and servers and quite another to sync tens, hundreds or even thousands of calendar and tasks data bits. Second, when you OWN and CONTROL all sides of the process the way Amazon does it is a far easier process than having to work with someone else’s tools, systems and limitations the way Alex and crew have with PI.

Thankfully, the latest build is GREAT and while I have NO INSIDE information on a release date I suspect it should not be long at all.
