According to App discovery platform Appsfire, Apple currently has more than one million listed on the U.S. App store. Back in October Apple noted that they had more than a million apps in all their stores this is the first time the company has reached these numbers in just one store.

Since the App Store opened in 2008 Apple is said to have approved roughly  1,439,451 apps since. What’s interesting is that almost 500,000 of these apps have been optimized for the iPad, leaving 900,000 optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch. To date Apple has paid developers more than $13 billion.

We find it a little odd that this news comes from an App discovery platform and not from Apple itself, however our best guess would be that Apple cares more about number of downloaded apps than number of available apps. However we would be surprised if this isn’t commented on by Tim Cook in one of the future Apple Keynotes.
