Untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad before the iPhone 4S

On December 27, 2011

The latest iOS update version 5.0.1 certainly gave a headache to a lot of iOS device users as it had made these devices unable to be jailbreak. There were a few breakthrough but none that could give untethered jailbreak to the iOS users that are having devices not equipped with the A5 processor which is made available only in the iPhone 4S.

However, that all changed when @pod2g had given the iPhone dev team an untethered jailbreak exploit which enables all pre-A5 devices to be able to have untethered jailbreak. As a result, the team had decided to put it into a handful of jailbreaking applications which are redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool. These two have been put into Cydia, another app store which specializes on jailbreak applications.

The devices that will be affected by this are iPod Touch 4G and iPad (all versions), iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA as well as the iPhone 3GS. However, these devices will have to be updated to version 5.0.1 before any jailbreaking could be done by the user. With this being said and done, expect a lot more users to upgrade to version 5.0.1. This may not be good news to Apple but maybe in the long run it will benefit the company as well.
