UPDATED

I am a HUGE fan of Appigo’s ToDo and Notebook. Both work amazingly well at synching the web-based task management program Toodledo to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Tonight an app actually entitled Toodledo appeared in the App Atore. At $3.99 (vs $9.99 for ToDo and $4.99 for Notebook), the app is a deal!

Or is it?

I quickly got a copy and loaded my Toodledo account into its settings. The app has some powerful features. Unlike ToDo, Toodledo includes fields for Context and Goals.  Both of these are important if you use a "Getting Things Done" approach to your talk management.  In addition, it syncs quickly with Toodledo and includes useful sorting fields such as Hotlist, Starred Items, and more.  All of these are excellent and make this app much more like the web-based Toodledo than ToDo.

There is, however, a huge shortcoming in this release of Toodledo.

I quickly got a copy and loaded my Toodledo account into its settings. The app has some powerful features. There is, however, a huge shortcoming in this release of Toodledo.

Unlike ToDo, if a task has a phone number, there is no way with Toodledo to simply click it and initiate the call.  Similarly, if a task has an email address in it, there is no way with Toodledo to simply click it and initiate the email program.  Both of these are features I have grown to depend upon in ToDo.

That noted, while ToDo has been available since the App Store went live on July 11, it is worth noting that Toodledo is brand new and only in its first version.  As such, it is a very good initial release.

Toodledo’s release notes claim they have big plans for it, and I have no doubt they will be coming soon.  We’ll be watching Toodledo as it develops, but for now, our task app of choice remains ToDo.

UPDATE: I heard back from Jake at Toodledo.com. He let me know that they have plans to make phone numbers and email addresses clickable in a future release. Knowing that this and other features are on the way is great since the more I used the iPhone Toodledo app last night and this morning the more impressed with it I have become. I won’t be moving to it full time right now but by the first or second update I suspect I wil do just that.

Get it HERE in the App Store.

Thanks to WOiP Reader J3003 for the headsup!
