Web App Update – Google Mobile App

I’m finding myself making my way back to Google’s web apps more and more and today there is even more reason for it-

A post over on Engadget gave the headsup that something new was going on with Google mobile. The Google Mobile Blog notes-

The new Gmail for mobile will also help you tackle your inbox faster. Gone are the days when you had to archive multiple messages by selecting each one, then scrolling all the way up (or down) to reach the archive button. Our fingers were getting sore with all the scrolling and we’re willing to bet yours were too. Now when you select a message, a floaty bar appears near the top of the screen with options to archive, delete, and more. In fact, the floaty bar stays with you as you scroll through your inbox, so you can easily archive, delete, or view more options no matter where you are.

A few minutes using it and it is clear that the improvements are significant. The app is faster and  more user-friendly. A "floaty bar" (their phrase not mine) magically appears at the top of the screen with oft-used actions, making it easy to navigate the app. Labels are easy to read and the whole experience feels more like you are on the full version than ever. And that is just the beginning. Using the same technology that allows off-line use of Gmail through Google Gears the mobile app will also be able to cache messages.

This is a huge deal for those of use who rely on Google for much of our information and, as usual, it is free!
