User Rating:With all the various exercise apps available in the App Store, it would make sense for them to specialize. Watchdoit.com has done just that with their boxing app. Basically, it’s a set of instructional videos that teach the user how to box.
A WiFi connection is required to view the videos, if you have an iPod touch. The app also includes a "cheat sheet", which has a small dictionary of insider terms for boxing as well as a suggested set of drills for anybody trying to actually box.
Where to begin? The first problem with the app is that it is video-heavy. If it really wanted to teach people to box, it would have a text instruction manual with diagrams so that heavy streaming downloads weren’t required.
Secondly, the videos themselves have quick cuts and text appearing on them like an episode of "Blind Date". The production of the videos is slightly reminiscent of MTV. This works well for the young aspiring boxer but what about the older folks who just like it as a form of exercise. Plus, I don’t see how anybody wearing a set of boxing gloves is going to be able to handle their iPhone or iPod touch to use these videos in the first place.
There are positives to the app. It’s free. You have nothing to lose by downloading and checking it out yourself. In fact, if you’re into watching other people learn how to box without actually boxing, this could be your app.
