There is no shortage of camera apps in the app store. To really stand out and remain relevant the app must be special, just as Camera+ is.

This app was once pulled from the App Store because of a hidden feature which allowed the volume rocker to snap photos. The app was readmitted to the store after several months’ leave, now (obviously) lacking that feature.

The app allows you to take photos in four modes: normal, stabilized, timed, or burst. There is also an optional nine-zone grid for aligning your photos, along with a zoom feature which seems to do more harm than good to the quality of your photos.

After taking photos in this app, they are not saved to your camera roll by default; instead, they are saved to Camera+’s Lightbox. This is where images are edited. If you are not one to edit before saving to the camera roll, you can simply choose "Save All" and they will appear in your camera roll. If you are one to edit, simply tap the photo you would like to edit and choose edit from the pop-up menu. (Since the 2.1 update, there is the option to autosave to Lightbox, your camera roll, or Lightbox and camera roll.)

Here it is possible to edit the photo based on the scene (backlit, cloudy, shade, beach, etc.). It is also possible to rotate the photo, crop the photo, add effects to the photo (there are 27 filters included and 9 more available via In-App Purchase), and add borders to the photo.

It is worth noting that any photo, even those not taken with Camera+, can be edited in Lightbox. You can easily add you camera roll photos by pressing an import-photo button at the bottom of the Lightbox screen. Also worth noting is the ability to share by Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr.

This app’s design is nothing short of tap tap tap’s standard if you are familiar with any of their work. Despite the beautiful design, I rarely use it to snap photos due to the slow startup in comparison to the stock Camera app. Also, when using the app, my battery seems to drain a little too quickly.

To me this app is a good photo editor; to you this app may be the perfect photo snapper, editor, and sharer.

Quick Take

Value:Depends. May be high for some, very low for others.

Would I Buy Again:I guess.

Learning Curve:Medium.

Who Is It For:Those who edit photos on their iPhone or those who like to use filters.

What I Like:Quite a few photo filters to choose from.

What I Don't Like:Can greatly affect battery life.

Final Statement:This is a good looking camera app with a few drawbacks.
