The iphone has a suite of great features – but the camera is lacking in many ways. And I know what you are saying, “It’s a PHONE, it isn’t a camera”…and that is true. But it’s hard to deny that when you need to take a picture, having a camera handy that can catch that ‘special moment’ is fantastic.
In particular, the 3 biggest problems that plague me on the iPhone (in respect to the camera) are dark pictures, blurry pictures, and no zoom.
The flash problem has died down a bit thanks to the iFlash Ready app. While not the perfect solution, it does the trick on those quick pictures.
The blurry pictures have yet to be resolved (I tried a few apps, but maybe all those cups of coffee are too much for any program to compensate for.)
Today I tried the camera zoom app. I’ve downloaded the app before, but it wouldn’t work under the 3.0 OS. The latest update fixes that and the app is working fine.
Camera Zoom is a software (digital) zoom application that works in “realtime” with the camera. To use Camera Zoom, you frame your picture like you would in the ‘Camera’ app, but you’ll notice a slider at the bottom. Sliding the slider zooms the image. Once you get it framed and sized you want, just press the camera button, and you’re good to go.
The documentation states that the previewed image will not be the best quality and they were right. I was concerned about it at first but was pleasantly surprised when the images came in clear and not blurry!
It still takes a few seconds for a picture, so if you are trying to get some action shots from far away, this isn’t the application for you.
But if you are trying to a picture of something that will stay and be patient (or at least as patient as a 2 year old), this is a handy tool to have in your ‘camera bag’

What I Like: I can finally zoom in on a picture! What more can I say?
What I Don’t: It’s a digital zoom instead of an optical zoom so the quality isn’t as good. Also the max zoom is 4x, a little bigger would be better. (I’m not sure if it’s ‘feasible’ to do a larger zoom though)
Final Statement: Camera Zoom is a handy app to keep on your phone and well worth the money.
