Sometimes you download an app for a good game or a useful tool, and sometimes you download because it’s a piano that makes cat sounds.  This is one of the latter situation.  The good news is that the cat sounds are on key.

The app is free to begin with, but you can download more types of cats (and a normal sounding piano) for an additional dollar.  There is a settings menu that allows you to put the key letters on the piano as well as share the app and get the sister application, Dog Piano.

Once you spend the buck, you have 10 different types of cats to play with (plus one piano) including Angelic Meow, Asthma Kitty, Fleabag, Forlorn, Furball, Furious, House Cat, The Warbler, Meow Mix 1 and Meow Mix 2.  Obviously, the creator of this app did his or her homework on cats.

Despite it’s obvious utility, the app does have its flaws.  The most glaring of them is the lack of volume control on the app.  Even worse, when I tried to use the master volume control on the iPhone 4, it didn’t lower the sound one iota.  It was quite embarrassing at work and definitely a flaw that needs to be worked out in future incarnations of this master instrument.

Despite this, it’s a fun app to own, particularly for kids (who could be occupied on this app for hours).  You can be the envy of your co-workers by having a Cat Piano handy.  There are far worse ways to waste a dollar.

Quick Take

Value:Medium to High,

Would I Buy Again:Yes, mostly because I found it amusing and had the buck to spare.

Learning Curve:Low, unless you don't know how to play the piano. Then high.

Who Is It For:Cat lovers. Musicians. Those musicians that use cats as instruments.

What I Like:Fun concept and app.

What I Don't Like:Volume controls don't work so well.

Final Statement:If the cats find out about this, there goes the furniture.
