Can you Sling it!

Here is something you can further sink your teeth into and make you salivate like a rabid monkey! Sling Media created a SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone portal on their website. Yes, such a tease. You teaser. Stop please stop, you’re such a tease!

Just so you all know, first quarter means near end of March, which is when they are expecting to release the application to the App store. Seems like a while a way and I do hope I am so wrong and have them give us a late Christmas present! Ok, time to change my underwear.

Pocket Informant – It’s The View That Matters

By

On January 7, 2009

When all is said and done, what makes or breaks any calendar or task management system on the iPhone is the way it presents information on such a small screen.

Does it let you see what you need to see easily?

Does it let you see it without having to scroll around too much?

Does it let you know what you need to know in a glance?

One of the things I’m most excited about with the upcoming release of PI  is the way in which it presents information in the number of options that you have. For example, check this screen shot out–

Update : Netflix + iPhone

I spent a good deal of time at the end of December reviewing the various applications currently available for viewing and managing your Netflix queue. While there are a number of excellent options available, I ultimately decided that, for me, the best approach was to use the iTV  application since it not only manages your Netflix queue but also allows you to access information on television and movies in the theater, as well.

I’m spending a good deal of time watching movies and television programs on Netflix while in the midst of an ongoing recovery from a number of surgeries and wanted to do a quick post on an app update on iPhlix.and my fvorite new gadget- the Roku.

Accessory Review – iVOICE Baby-ai

Bluetooth headsets are commonplace these days — especially since most states have now made it illegal to drive while holding a cell phone. Bluetooth headsets that are both comfortable and sound great, however, are anything but commonplace. More often than not I get a new headset that looks promising, use it for a couple of days, and then discover that there’s something problematic. Perhaps it’s not as comfortable as I’d like, or it doesn’t sit securely enough in my ear when wearing it. Or it may sound great to me, but sound like I’m in a tunnel to the person on the other side of the phone call. Or it could have a great fit and sound good, but the process of pairing the device to the phone is annoyingly cumbersome. As a result, I find myself returning to wired headsets over and over. It’s for that reason that I’m always interested in trying out and reviewing a new headset; the opportunity to review this one was no different.

When I first received this review unit, I was taken by its small size. I’d used a headset that was about the same size a few years ago, and it was notable for its size — and for the poor audio quality it provided. I was interested to see if a few years had made some difference and it would not only have the “wow” factor to its size but also some “I’m impressed” qualities with regard to the sound. I’m happy to report that that was indeed the case.

The Baby-ai Dual mic Bluetooth Headset is a cute Headset. It looks small and unassuming, but don’t let it size fool you, as it employs the latest sound technology available.

Well, well, look what the cat dragged in! From our last post regarding this in the past, as fast as it went up, it was quickly debunked but this time, try telling that to Sling Media when they have officially stated that they will be releasing this sometime in Q1 in 2009.

Are you excited! I know I am, it has been a long ardous road and believe me, I have had about an inch of dust covering my sling device since the days of my Windows Mobile device. So for all you iPhone users out there, of course with a sling device, blow the dust off because here it comes. You can now hold your breath!

I love Pandora. I love the way it personalizes my internet radio experience. I love the way it introduces me to new artists. And I love the fact that it has been updated to Version 2.0.

Pandora 2.0 adds artist biographies, streaming samples for bookmarked songs, and the ability to create a station based on single song

The update also adds a CoverFlow experience for song history, the ability to email and share stations, and a song progress bar.

Pandora version 2 is available here.

Truphone + Skype, A Coversation With CEO Geraldine Wilson

By

On

The world of communication is changing quickly, we all know it. When I was a kid, telephones still had a rotary dialer, and long-distance calls were made with care because they cost so much. Growing up, my father was one of the researchers helping to ensure that the first transatlantic fiber optical cable could be laid and, with it, far larger bandwidth used for both voice and data transfer.

Here we are in 2009 and things are changing more rapidly than ever. Leading the communication transition is a small but rapidly growing company known as Truphone.
I had the opportunity to speak with Geraldine Wilson, the CEO of Truphone, late this afternoon. Geraldine’s been with the company for only three months. Her enthusiasm for all that the company has achieved, and excitement regarding plans for the future is clear when speaking to her.

The call was precipitated by the company’s announement yesterday that Truphone is bringing Skype to the iPhone.

Within the next week and a half, on both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the Truphone application will include IM using Google Talk, Microsoft, Skype, and Yahoo.  It will incorporate the ability to Twitter, and allow access for voice calls using both Skype and Google Talk. All of that means that the ability to use the application to make free WiFi calls jumps from the hundreds of thousands to the millions of potential recipients. If that’s not a significant change in communication, I’m not sure what is.

App Update – Juxtaposer

Juxaposer is one of those apps I just love.

Then again, what’s not to love?

You take parts of one picture, then parts of another picture, put them together and make a third picture.

You can’t help but laugh or (depending upon whose body your head is placed and your sense of humor) insulted. I love it!

And it just got a whole lot better. A recent update to Juxtaposer …

iTap – Review Update and Giveaway

By

On January 6, 2009

We took a look at iTap a few monts ago. Since then, the app has been updated and new features. Here’s a fresh look…

Every so often an update comes along that answers everyone’s prayers. Well… Thank the lord! On the seventh day, he gave us text input! iTap’s recent update can almost classify itself as a new app release with all it has to offer. The jist is the same; remotely control your computer from across the room or, best case scenario, the couch. The application that gave us multitouch trackpad support at an affordable price has done it again adding keyboard input that is easy to use and extremely convenient. One of the most noticeable upgrades in the application is to the trackpad itself. In order to keep with Apple’s high standards it has been updated to reflect the new buttonless multitouch pad found on the new unibody Macbooks.

(More and the giveaway after the break.)
