Cool Chinese mythology aside, China Archer proves to be a very addictive game for mobile devices. As per the name suggests, the game involves players controlling a highly skilled and heroic archer in ancient times, scouring the lands and defeating enemy soldiers along the way,
In terms of gameplay, China Archer is very engaging. Controls differ from your typical action genres, in a sense that instead of having fixated buttons and a joystick, players tap the screen to control movements and drag the archer back to fire shots. This can be a little difficult though, in certain scenarios when your archer stands at the corner of the screen. Of course, there are little boosts here and there such as when the drag is held for a long period of time, giving the archer a charged shot of sorts.
While the game is easy to learn, the difficulty level of the game increases very quickly. One example would be in the initial stages, where the first three stages are really easy to beat but once the first boss comes out, the game give players a really hard time.
Unlockables in the form of upgraded bows, each with their own increase in abilities, are available to keep players enticed.
I would have liked the game more if China Archer put in more effort to developing the plot. While a rough and general description of the storyline is seen in the app description, plot hardly plays a part in the actual game.
Priced at $1.99, this is a very good game nonetheless and I would recommend the purchase.
