User Rating:As a part-time comedian, I was naturally curious about an app that called itself the Comedy Sidekick. Upon downloading and using it, I’ve discovered that the app should be called Comedy Sidekick For Those With Low Self-Esteem.
For the most part, the app is sound effects, including an introduction, laughter and applause. The app does allow for modification of the sound effects. The app also allows the user to record his or her own jokes and include them in the application itself. I can see this as useful for a comedian because it gives a sense how the joke will sound to other people.
I’m honestly not sure whom the app is for. Is it for comedians or the general public? If it were for comedians I’d like to think there would be more tools for helping the joke-writing process. This app seems more of a comedy club simulator for those who want the experience without actually working open mics.
Another idea of improvement would be if the app worked with the cameras found in iPhones. Since I’m assuming the app is for those wishing to simulate a comedy club, why not allow the app to record the comedian and put him on a simulated stage using some sort of green screen effect? Perhaps that could be a future generation.
Overall, I like the concept of the app and certain features would help comedians, but the app seems a bit amateur to those wishing to go professional. If you want to have a little fun with comedy-related sound effects, then it might be worth the dollar.
