User Rating:I once had this great idea for an iPhone / iPod Touch app. Before digital photography, party stores used to sell these stickers the buyer would affix to their photographs and make the characters speak in word balloons. To the best of my knowledge, nobody created an app that would do the digital version of the same thing. I was fully prepared to learn Objective C in order to make this a reality. Then I discovered Comic Touch, and the whole idea was flushed down the toilet.
It should be noted that the only difference between the free Lite version of the app and the full $2.99 version is that a watermark saying "made with Comic Touch Lite" is affixed to every photo you manipulate.
To use the app, you can select any photo in your Photo Library (I have the iPod Touch so I used a drawing I created with Doodle Buddy) on which to draw word balloons. If you tap the photo once, you get the toolbars for creating word balloons or doing other special effects on the photo. If you want to change the text in the word balloon, double-tap the word balloon. You can also do minor effects like creating a bulge in the photo or moving it around by dragging.
The app is good for what it does but certain little things bother me. You can only choose white-on-black or black-on-white for the balloon color schemes. Also, the pointer on the balloons only go to the lower right, which limits placement on the photo.
Overall, it’s certainly worth the free download. With a few tweaks, the creators potentially have a really fun app on their hands.
Pros: Good idea. Good execution.
Cons: More color options should be available for the balloons, as well as more pointer-directional options.
