User Rating:As with many of the major websites on the Internet, Craigslist has its own iPhone app. It’s not an official app. It seems to be run by an independent consortium called Next Mobile Web who use free apps like this to promote their other work. But how does it stack up?
The individual categories from the website are presented in a list format and with the tap of a finger it’s possible to browse down a level. You can even browse the rather raunchy personals section (which makes the app rated 18+ by Apple’s standards).
It’s possible to change the default location for the app and browse other places around the world As with the website, you can post your own ads. Unlike the website, there is a section that notes ads that are happening near your current location. You can bookmark specific ads as you can with any standard browser.
There is even a "best of Craigslist" section, which seems to be for the most unusual or humorous ads. I question anybody who can rate what is "best" on Craigslist. I simply call it humanity without constraints and leave it at that.
The app is good, but it’s missing something critical that the website has: search functionality. Near as I can tell, there is no way to search the listings in this app. That’s a pretty glaring omission, particularly if you’re only looking for a toaster.
Despite this, I recommend the download if only because it beats opening up the browser and navigating to Craigslist. Perhaps they’ll correct the lack of search capability in a future release.
Pros: Easy to navigate and use.
Cons: No search capability.
