User Rating:Crazy Hamster is a brightly colored and cartoony side-scrolling iPhone game featuring a wacky eyed rodent who can’t seem to stop running as he collects fruits for the coming winter. Being the crazy creature that he is, he is absolutely oblivious of the traps and obstacles that pepper his way. It is your job then to keep him alive while he runs with no sign of ever stopping or getting tired. You do this by placing various objects, such as bridges, fire extinguishers, trampolines and parachutes, where needed along the hamster’s path.
For example, if you see an abyss straight ahead of the clueless hamster’s path, what you need to do is tap on the bridge button at the bottom of the game screen, then tapping on the abyss or the space between the two cliffs to make a bridge magically appear there, thereby providing safe passage to our nutty animal hero. The fire extinguishers are conjured in the same manner for putting out fires. So are the trampolines and parachutes for jumping long distances and descending from high cliffs, respectively. More buttons corresponding to more life-saving objects are made available at the bottom of the screen to help the hamster, depending on the types of traps and obstacles expected to appear along the way.
Crazy Hamster is a pretty easy game with really simple controls. It’s just a matter of pushing the correct button and dropping the corresponding object at the right place and at the right time, preferably way before the hamster reaches the potentially deadly place right ahead of him. Aside from getting past the traps, though, you must also be able to guide the hamster toward the endpoint of each level before the time set for that level is up. Tilting your device is said to increase the hamster’s running speed, but at the moment using this control input seems to be a hit-and-miss affair.
Quick Take
Value:Low.
Would I Buy Again:Probably not.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:People who like side-scrollers with fairly easy gameplay.
What I Like:Bright graphics. Assortment of life-saving objects.
What I Don't Like:Some levels are not very challenging. Unresponsive tilt control.
Final Statement:The bright colors and cute graphics of Crazy Hamster make up for the game's apparent lack of really demanding gameplay elements.
