I have come to enjoy apps for the camera, despite the sub-par performance our iPhone camera provides. I do not take a ton of pictures with my phone, but when I do, I like to tweak them. Cropulator is the best application I have found to crop and straighten your photos.

You are able to choose to take a photo or use a photo from your camera roll. The photo I am using is a shot of my youngest son after playing hard on a Sunday afternoon.

Crop function
The crop function is represented by the double square icon on the bottom left. The corners of your image have boxes. You simply drag a corner to the size you need. This smaller image box may not be directly over the spot you are cropping to. Just simply drag the box where you want it and fine tune any sizing in the cropped area. If you click the lock icon you may crop without maintaining aspect ratio and can move each side of the cropping box, rather than the corner. Once you are happy with the area simply click save, and your newly cropped image is saved to your camera roll. One addition I would like to see in an update is a preview option. Even though the highlighted portion will be the final image, I like to see what it will look like before I save.

Straightening function
There are three ways to rotate the picture. First, you can use the rotate 90 degrees button. Pretty self explanatory. Second, you can use the rotate buttons. These buttons rotate the picture one degree. Great for a quick minor adjustment. The final option is to use your finger to adjust the horizon. You place your finger on the image and draw a visible white line. Now you drag that line to the desired angle and let go. The image stays at that angle and auto crops itself to maintain ratio. Three very simple and intuitive ways to rotate your iPhone photos.

This app is very useful because it takes the idea of cropping and straightening photos and uses familiar iPhone gestures to complete the task quickly and easily. I highly recommend Cropulator to anyone who ever feels the need to get your photos just right.

Quick Take:

Value:  High

Would I buy again?  Big yes!

Learning curve:  Low if you have adjusted a photo.  Medium if you have not.

Who is it for?  Anyone who wants to tweak photos from their iPhone.

What I like:  How they utilized common iPhone gestrures to create a very easy and useful app.

What I don’t:  Please add a preview option!

Read the Developer's Notes:
A little nip here, a little tuck there. Cropulator allows for quick cropping and rotating of images using simple, but elegant tools. Get rid of unwanted image areas by tapping and dragging while either maintaining the aspect ratio or not. Ever take a crooked photo? Not a problem. Just draw a line along a horizontal or vertical edge in Rotate mode and voila, the image automatically straightens. But wait, it gets better. If the crop rectangle has not been adjusted, rotating will automatically crop the image. How cool is that?FEATURES- Crop and/or rotate images- Lock the aspect ratio when cropping- Straighten the image by drawing a line along an edge in Rotate mode- Rotate by one degree in either direction for fine tuning- Automatically crop the image based on the amount of rotation- Edit in portrait or landscape mode- Integrated HelpKNOWN ISSUESOccasionally, the iPhone/iPod runs low on system memory causing memory-intensive apps to crash. It may be necessary to cycle the power on your phone. Simply power off by holding down the button at the top of your device for two seconds and restart.
