I own several calorie-tracking applications.  My favorite one is the free "Lose It!" application from the iPod/iPhone commercials.  Daily Value, however, does have some advantages over my favorite that may make it worth the $.99 investment.

Unlike Lose It!, Daily Value tracks other aspects of your food than just calories.  It also tracks fat, cholesterol, carbohydrates, protein and various other aspects of food that dieters are concerned about nowadays.  In fact, using such a system is indicative that either the user is a dietician who needs to do research or someone who normally reads many food labels in his/her daily routine.

Fortunately, the app already comes with a fairly comprehensive list of food and their content.  Even if you don’t know exactly what you’re eating, a quick search on the app could give you a good estimate.

The app also makes it possible to declare certain foods as your favorites (presumably the ones you eat the most often), it allows you to input custom foods, and it gives a summary of your eating habits over a period of time.

A readily accessible help menu is also available.

I suppose if I had one complaint about the app, it would be the bland presentation.  It would be nice if the app had customizable skins or something.  All good apps have form as well as function.

For what it does, the app is quite good.  It certainly does a lot for the price and is good for those on a diet that need to track food things other than calories.

Pros: Easy to use.  Much information.

Cons: Could have a nicer presentation.
