Diamond hunter is one of those games that definetly gets you ‘thinking outside the box’.

The basics of the game are pretty simple to understand. The game is played in landscape mode, although the reverse direction you would think. Controls are easy to learn, simply drag around any of the springs, teleports, walls, or conveyors you may have at your disposal. Tap the gem and it will release and fall downward, falling into any obstacle you may have set in it’s path.

Between bouncing off springs and walls, and sliding across conveyers the intent is to collect colored icons with the gem before it falls into the basket. Didn’t collect all the colored icons but still got the gem in the basket? Too bad, do it again.

The game itself is decent enough, and easily entertaining, although aggravating at times as well.

The graphics are decent, physics are intelligent enough for this type of game, but it does have it’s flaws as well. Diamond Hunter does not include a tutorial, or even a help menu for that matter. The title screen features Play, Load, and Highscores, but nothing to help you figure out how to play. After a few minutes of messing with it the controls are easily figured out though. Tutorial may not have been necessary persay, but would have been a nice and easy feature to include.

Gameplay itself was entertaining and fun, but the difficulty of each level grew extremely fast. level one was simple, by the time I got to level eleven it was taking me almost 15-30 minutes to figure out a puzzle. The largest problem I had with the game personally was the ‘Load’ feature. I had about a 50% chance that it would load the game where I left off. The other half the time it would kick me back to level one. Maybe with a tutorial added, and the load feature looked at this game could be great.

QUICK TAKE

Value: Medium

Would I Buy Again: Added tutorial and load fixed, Yes.

Learning Curve: Easy if you are good at physics games, more difficult if you are not.

Who is it for: Anyone who likes puzzle-type games.

My Likes: Fun game, gets you thinking.

My Dislikes: No tutorial, load function not 100%

Final Statement: Diamond Hunter is a good game that will easily keep anyone entertained (or aggravated) for an extended period of time.
