Riding on the Jurassic Park bandwagon, Dinosaur Safari transports you back in time as you go on a hunting trip but instead of shooting deer and other wild game, you get to pump bullets into the hides of dinosaurs. Sounds simple? That’s not all. If you fail to kill the dinosaurs, they will kill you instead. So it really is a battle of the fittest in this game.

In Dinosaur Safari, players board a moving jeep that drives through a savannah type of environment where they encounter lots of different dinosaurs. Armed with their trusty rifle, they gun down the gigantic reptiles one by one which is rather cruelly addictive.

The game is reminiscent of those Jurassic Park styled arcade games that bring players on the adventure of a lifetime.

However, Dinosaur Safari was rather disappointing when it came to the visual renderings of the dinosaurs and the gameplay itself. The graphics were rather grainy and blocky, with not much attention paid to intricate details. Moreover, with the playable character being stuck on a jeep, maneuvering around was limited and certain areas moved by too quickly to clear out the entire horde of beasts.

Another disappointing point was that besides the obvious visual differences between the different species of dinosaurs, there was nothing else to discern them. They all fell equally easily with a well-aimed shot. Such a lack of variety leads to the game becoming very repetitive and it soon bores very quickly.

For $1.99, I would not recommend getting Dinosaur Safari. While a decent game on an overall scale, it does not justify itself for a game costing two dollars.

Quick Take

Value:Low.

Would I Buy Again:No.

Learning Curve:Med. Shoot with taps and drags on the touch screen, but easier said than done.

Who Is It For:Casual gamers.

What I Like:The idea of hunting down the magnificent beasts of the past.

What I Don't Like:Game is boringly repetitive and not varied.

Final Statement:I would have liked it better with some head-ripping action.
