Some games are so brilliantly simple that there really isn’t that much you can write about it. Nevertheless, the current popularity of Doodle Sprint means that I feel obliged to at least try.

In Doodle Sprint, you control the jumps of a ceaselessly sprinting stick-man, trying to jump over basic obstacles such as pits and spikes. Fall onto spikes and you lose one of your three lives, fall into a pit and you die instantly.

All the game consists of is tapping the screen at the right time and with the right strength (which effects whether you do a big jump or a small one). And that’s all there is to it! Is it good? Yes, but then so are 100s of other games in a similar style. While this gameplay is appealing, it’s hardly original.

Doodle Sprint features Game Center support with online leaderboards, and allows you to post your scores on Facebook and Twitter. Its minimal graphical style and quirky sound effects give it the edge over similar platform runners. It’s free, it’s fun. Why not give it a go, ‘ey?
