From the makers of Dragon Dictation (a perfect app if there ever was one) comes Dragon Search. This app uses the same speech-to-text technology with a slightly different outcome. You can dictate search terms for Google, Wikipedia, Twitter, YouTube and several other popular, searchable websites.
As with Dragon Dictation, this app is free. The app similarly also has the red button which one taps in order to begin dictation. Once completed, one taps the "Done" button and the app does a Google search on the spoken phrase (as well as translating the phrase to text).
The translation is near perfect. It even almost perfectly translated my editor’s Russian name, albeit with some spelling errors. The only time the app mistranslated was with my own name which became "Read Tree Check" then "Brad Sea Tac" on the second try. Insert joke here.
Ordinarily I would not criticize such a useful app but a few aspects of the app are sadly lacking. First off, one can only search the pre-programmed sites which is limiting. Secondly, the app automatically does the Google search instead of letting the user choose the default. Thirdly, one cannot customize choose the sites in which to search. If you’re a fan of the Bing search engine, you’ll have to download that app separately.
Despite its shortcomings, the app is free and the shortcomings only represent a star away from a perfect score. If you have a particularly long phrase in which you want to Google search and are too lazy to type it out, then Dragon Search was made for you.
