User Rating:When I was a young’un, there was a game called Simon. Simon was essentially a memory game in which the player(s) had to remember the order in which the buttons lit up and press the buttons in the same order (several copycat games were released at the time included one I recall named Einstein). DragonEye is the same concept but with buttons that look like they’re jewels that are embedded in stone.
The game comes with three levels of difficulty and there is a backstory about defeating a dragon by remembering the order in which you touch the colored stones, but it’s really not that necessary.
The game was offered for free for a limited time, but as of this writing the price is back up to $.99. There are several Simon clones available throughout the App Store for free (undoubtedly to prevent litigation), so you can decide if the cool-looking background is worth it.
The game is well done and is very good for kids of all ages. My one complaint is that there are no settings to turn off the sounds or background music of the app, so one has to settle for muting the volume of their iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s not a horrific thing to do but it’s somewhat inconvenient. There are, however, various game stats and awards. The downside to those is that you have to register with a social networking site to see them.
If you like Dungeons and Dragons style graphics, then this is your game. Otherwise, I’d recommend going for one of the other Simon clones in the App Store.
Quick Take
Value:Medium.
Would I Buy Again:Probably not, only because there are other free games that do the same thing.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Memory game and/or Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts.
What I Like:Cool background and backstory.
What I Don't Like:No sound settings.
Final Statement:Generally an okay app that could be worth the $.99 for the good graphics.
