Man the towers boy, a dragon is attacking! With an blanket of fire he lays to waste everything in his path. His armor plating is nigh impenetrable, and our peasants have to face him with little more than pitch forks. If the people ban together perhaps we can overcome this menace and save the kingdom.

Dragon’s Rage is brought to us by a newcomer in the iOS gaming department; Prativo Group. In this medieval battle for survival, you control not the humans, but the dragon himself as he ravages the country side on a path toward the castle. In your way are mobs of peasants, knights, and even pesky archers all determined to stop you.

Dragon’s Rage reminded me immediately of Blue Defense, a game from 2008 that has you firing at enemies that came from all sides as you rotated your cannon toward the most imminent threat. Dragon’s Rage is a bit different because the orientation of your dragons states at the bottom of the screen and you rotate the landscape by tilting the device. A button in the right hand corner fires, while the upper left lets you keep track of damage and your dragon’s stamina. The later is important because if you simply hold down the fire buttons you will quickly find yourself running out of fire and the peasant’s forks will be on your quickly. As you battle, there are power-ups that will restore life, stamina, or even give your special powers like a laser. Each section is divided into waves and at the end of a section you have a bonus round where you are flying across the land burning up the helpless people. To fire in this round though you must blow into your mic. This mechanism is similar to the one used in Legend of Zelda games for the Nintendo DS.

The game has four sections and while you can probably make your way through the game in a couple of hours of casual gaming, you can also have fun aiming for the highest score on the Game Center leader boards. Dragon’s Rage is a fun distraction that is easy to pick up and play for short periods of time without much commitment. For the causal gamer, this is another strong title. For a limited time Dragon’s Rage is available for free so pick this one up quick.
