For those of us that actually remember those big refrigerators called "video games" and that place in every mall called an "arcade", you might remember the game Duck Hunt. This new version actually makes use of Augmented Reality in iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod touch (and soon to be in iPad 2) to make it look like you’re shooting ducks right in front of your camera.
The graphics are very retro and goes out of its way to emulate the original video game, despite better graphics processing existing in the current iPhone than in those refrigerators of yesteryear. They even have the same laughing dog character that appears when you shoot. What’s new, however, is the use of the 360-degree angle that comes with augmented reality in which you can move the iPhone around and shoot your metaphorical gun in a multitude of directions.
There are some nice features that come with this such as the game adjusting and recalibrating automatically based on the position of your device. The game is also interactive with GameCenter so you can be social while shooting ducks. I suppose my only complaint would be that more realistic-looking characters would be nice given today’s video game standards, but that would kind of defeat the intentional retro quality of the game.
For the retro gamer with a taste for iPhone 4 gaming functionality, the app is great and it only costs a buck. And if you get it now, it’ll soon work on your iPad 2 as well.

What I Like:Good recreation of the game. Nice use of AR.
What I Don't Like:I prefer more modern graphics, but that's just me.
Final Statement:Hunting ducks just got real.
It does not work on iPad2 yet. Patch is in review.
