User Rating:Full disclosure: I also do freelance writing for the AOL group of blogs (but not Engadget), so my opinion is not completely impartial. That being said, I liked Engadget as a site long before I worked for AOL. Plus, the app is free so if my gushing seems like sycophancy to you, feel free to download it yourself and make your own judgements.
For those unaware, Engadget is a news and opinion blog about technology. It’s aimed at the techie or technology lover. With that in mind, one would expect great things from an iPhone app about the site. I’m pleased to say it doesn’t disappoint. In fact, the interface is virtually a clone of the TUAW app (also from the AOL blogs) with one or two refinements.
As with the TUAW app, there are up-to-the-minute newsfeeds as well as articles by topic. There is also quick access to galleries and videos. It’s also possible to bookmark a particular article or video via the app and return to it later. You can also access and download various podcasts.
The app comes with the capability of changing the default version to the mobile version or EngadgetHD. The user can also comment on articles just as if he or she was browsing the website. The only functionality missing is the ability to run other AOL blog apps from this one, but i don’t think Apple allows for that. Oh well.
Between its capabilities and its price, this is a five star application. Recommended.
