Equanimity is a no fuss meditation tracker. No fuss because it does its job… But it has all possible features you could expect, in a simple packaging.

What features does Equanimity have? First, you can set the meditation time, of course. From 5 minutes to 12 hours with variable stepping (you can’t meditate for 2 hours 6 minutes, of course.) You can also add an extra preparation time for the meditation (30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes) while you sit and get set. And you can also add small alarms in the middle of your meditation (at most one per minute,) either to keep track of how much is left or just to remind you to move your legs, or do some walking meditation. Equanimity looked simple, but see, it isn’t!

Starting the meditation (with preparation time) is greeted with a short “ding”, then a bell for the start, and two bell chimes for each small alarm. Three bell rings and your session is over, now you can add a journal entry to remind you how it was. Equanimity keeps track of all your sittings… And…

What else? Well, just put your iPhone in portrait mode and you’ll see a quick visualisation of your meditation data. Straight in Equanimity without needing any fancy apps you can see how are you faring this week (i.e. sitting daily, every 2 days…,) for how long you have meditated with the app and a monthly graph. Oh, and you can export this wealth of data in CSV format, for all those quantified self data freaks.

In short: Equanimity is the best meditation timer in the app store, no doubts.

Quick Take

Value:Huge

Would I Buy Again:No doubts

Learning Curve:Very low

Who Is It For:Meditators

What I Like:It is completely full featured. Data export is awesome

What I Don't Like:It's a little pricy, but I won't complain

Final Statement:The best meditation timer in the app store

Read the Developer's Notes:
Equanimity has been very carefully designed to help you establish and maintain a daily meditation practice.

The elegant meditation timer times your sittings, provides a beautiful journal for sitting notes, and displays graphical tracking giving you clear feedback on your meditation practice. It's carefully designed to be the ideal companion for anyone who meditates.

The journal is comparable in quality to many standalone note-taking apps. It allows you to optionally take notes after your sittings, and lets you browse through your meditation history as either a visually annotated log or textual journal. All of your recorded data can be exported, as a nicely formatted email that you can print, or as a table that you can load into a spreadsheet. You can also email individual journal entries - useful for posting them on a blog.

Easy to read graphics let you know at a glance how regularly you are meditating, and how long your daily practice has been going. A chart illustrates your progress over the course of the year, and a bar graph shows the total number of hours you have meditated.

As a reminder if you forget to sit, the application icon optionally counts the number of days since you last meditated.
