Receipts. Whether it’s waiting impatiently for the man behind the counter in Tesco to give you one, or sifting through a pile of them on a bi-weekly basis, they’re the bane of our lives. It’s shocking that even in this day and age of ever-increasing digitalisation, we still are forced to deal with these frustratingly curly bits of paper. While ExpenseMagic does not forever free us of this paper-based curse, it certainly makes dealing with it a hell of a lot easier
ExpenseMagic is essentially a receipt-management app, which lets you take photos of your receipts and write them tap them into the app, from where you can export your expenses as spreadsheets to your employer or yourself. Doing all this manually is convenient enough, with you being able to select from a bunch of traditional expense categories to save you doing too much tapping on the iPhone keyboard (let’s face it, none of us are fully accustomed to it).
If all this still seems too hands-on for you, then ExpenseMagic have a dedicated team of book-keepers that will actually manage your receipts for you. For each receipt you send to this bunch of little helpers, you use a token. With 20 tokens costing £2.99 (and free tokens dished out to those who refer their friends), that works out at 15p per receipt.
All your receipt data is stored using cloud servers, meaning that should, God forbid, your iPhone get lost or stolen, your precious expense details remain safe. The app even uses your GPS so that if you’re in a foreign country, the currency gets automatically converted to your domestic one.
ExpenseMagic makes a wide use of the iPhone’s capabilities. Cloud-based storage, GPS tracking and, most relevant of all, access to a group of in-house bookkeepers make this essential for those who wish to digitalise their receipt-management process. Paper receipts are not yet a thing of the past, but ExpenseMagic comes very close to making them seem that way.
