Originally this app was $6.99 and for the World Cup it’s been lowered to $.99. I’ll let that sink in for a moment. Now that it has sunk in, even if you only have a passing interest in soccer (or football as it is known in most places outside the United States) you should download this game.
The graphics and animation are as stunning as anything you would expect from Electronic Arts. You can choose from a series of countries to represent and of stadiums at which to play. You can also assign actual players of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to various positions. You can show an instant replay of the last move. You can view match statistics. In the game settings, you can change language, the level of play (amateur, semi-professional, professional and world class) and the volume for sound effects and background music. In short, this game is a soccer fan’s wet dream.
Actually, if you only have a passing interest in soccer, this is the best opportunity to download such a rich yet cheap iPhone or iPod touch game. Next year, a new version for 2011 will be released with different player names.
My only complaint about the game is that it feels like there are a million controls for it and it can be somewhat difficult to master at first. The game does come with a tutorial for assistance. This seems a minor quibble given the otherwise impressive nature of the game.
In short, whether a soccer fan or not, this game is worth the dollar.
