User Rating:The flickr app is a native iPhone app that interfaces into Yahoo’s flickr photo sharing service. On the simplest level, using the app lets you search for images based on keywords you enter. This will give you hours of fun and excitement while you browse through the millions of images on flickr.
To fully utilize the app though, you’ll want a flickr account. A flickr account allows you to upload images directly from the iPhone to flickr. Since all the image uploading (from existing images and images you take with the camera) are incorporated cleanly into the app, using the flickr app is a great way for mobile users to create and manage their photostreams while they are out and about.
Imagine being able to share pictures from your vacation without having to download them to your computer and then upload them to the site. If facebook is an example, I suspect that flickr will have a dramatic increase in the number of users and number of mobile users uploading images.
The only drawback I saw to the app is that when I took images with the built in camera and uploaded it, I needed to exit the app and then restart it before it was displayed on my iPhone. If I checked the website though, the images were displayed right away. I’m guessing that this is some sort of caching/networking issue that will be ironed out shortly.
If you are a mobile user that want to update from “the road”, or if you are closet photo journalist then this is definitely a handy app to have.
Quick Take
Value:Great value!
Would I Buy Again:Absolutely; Esp. if I wanted to use my iPhone as a way to document my world
Learning Curve:Low; the hardest part was setting up a flickr account
Who Is It For:People who like to share photos (esp. photos from their phone) and people that like to browse flickr
What I Like:I like that it's easy to use and that I can take a picture and then upload it directly to flickr; rather than downloading them to my computer and then uploading it to flickr
What I Don't Like:That images I uploaded didn't show up in flickr right away. (I had to restart the app to see them)
