Fumbers is a portmanteau word that originated from the words ‘fun’ and ‘numbers.’ You know, kind of like how Hollywood gossip columnists dubbed Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as ‘Brangelina’ and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez/Garner as ‘Bennifer.’ Well, Fumbers was so named apparently to suggest what the game offers: fun with numbers. An important question now presents itself: Does the game live up to its name? The answer: Yes and no.
Yes, if you’re new to the game or have just started a new game session. No, because the game tends to lose its element of fun as you progress into the game.

Fumbers is basically a game that tests the extent of your memory retention with a set of numbers. A round begins with a several numbers positioned separately on the screen. You have to commit the numbers and their corresponding positions to memory because they will soon be concealed behind question marks, where upon you must tap on the question marks one at a time according to the numerical sequence of the current set of numbers. Tap on a wrong mark and the game’s over.

Game scoring involves a 10-point countdown timer that starts as soon as the numbers are hidden. How much time is left on the timer the instant you reveal the numbers in their correct sequence corresponds to how many times your score for that round will be multiplied. Bonus rounds are also interspersed within the game to give you chances of further increasing your points. And while we’re on the topic of scoring, I should mention one gripe, albeit admittedly a minor one, I have against the recording of high scores accomplished in the game: The game should be able to recall the player’s name once it has been entered for inclusion in the leaderboard. At the moment you need to reenter your name if you achieve a new high score even if you already have a previous entry in the high scores table.

As mentioned, Fumbers is quite fun to play especially when you’re just starting, but give it a few minutes and it could get a bit repetitive. The background images featuring famous tourist spots from around the world are quite attractive but, not surprisingly, they add little to the enjoyment of the game. The upbeat background music does help a bit, though.

Quick Take

Value:Low.

Would I Buy Again:Probably Not.

Learning Curve:No instructions section is included in the app, which is understandable since the rules of the game are downright simple.

Who Is It For:People who like memory games involving numbers.

What I Like:The background images, the background music, and the progressively challenging sets of numbers to work with.

What I Don't Like:The ability to remember high scores.

Final Statement:Fumbers promises fun with numbers, and as a quick pick-up-and-play game, it somewhat delivers.
