User Rating:Anytime someone bills a game as "addictive", I hesitate. I’ve been addicted, and it’s not fun. Sadly, I found Gangster Rocco to be more annoying than addictive.
I’ll start with the pluses: the character and background designs are cute. They’re very cartoony and fun to look at. They would work well if not for the shortcomings of the game.
What are the shortcomings, you ask? The biggest one is that the animation is choppy and there is no flow to the game. Watching the screen feels as if I’m continuously closing and opening my eyes.
The second and admittedly lesser shortcoming is that it’s impossible to pause the game while it is in play. Your only choice to go to the menu at that stage is to end the game or use up all your character’s lives.
The objective of the game quite simply is that you are Gangster Rocco (a mouse dressed in a gangster outfit) and you must pick up cheese on the street (who leaves cheese on the street?) while avoiding cats and mousetraps. If you hit either of the latter, you lose a life. For some reason, Gangster Rocco carries a tommy gun. He doesn’t use it in the game, so I don’t understand the point of having it in the first place.
Sadly I cannot recommend Gangster Rocco for purchase, despite its reasonable cost of $.99. If the developers worked on the animation, I could see it. Until then, it just looks like one of those cheap handheld single-game units from the 80’s.
