Having a masterful knowledge of the world’s geo-political layout is a strange source of pride for many people, myself included. It’s as if smugly putting a Capital city to a country shows to those around you just how much of a worldly person you are.

Geogame World Series is a way of testing and improving this knowledge, as it tests you on trivia such as currencies, territories, Capital cities and flags from all over the world. You can test yourself on each individual continent and on each individual category, allowing you to really fine-tune your knowledge of countries around the world.

Your scores and time are automatically recorded, so you can keep track of how your geo-political mind is expanding. The only niggle on this side of things is the fact that you can’t compare your score with friends and strangers from around the world; a personal shame for me as I think I’d come out quite favourably in this game, for once.

Like a world map in a geography classroom, the app interface is clean and clinical, with no fancy effects or colours (though you can change the question-changing animation between Fade, Top and Left!). But this isn’t an issue, seeing as there’s no room for distractions if you’re trying to develop an accurate mental map of the whole world.

Aside from the Gaming mode, there is also a Learning mode, in which you can find out more specific details of every country in the world. A neat addition here is the ‘Information’ button which sends you straight to the Wikipedia link for that given country.

Geogame World Series is a raw, trivia/learning package. While it doesn’t do anything fancy, it includes all the features you need to improve your knowledge of the national borders, flags and currencies that humankind has layered onto the world. And as mentioned earlier, mastering such worldly trivia feels pretty damn good.
