Trying to come up with the next big thing in the competitive world of online life-sharing and social networking is an unenviable task; one that usually ends in failure. Nevertheless, GLMPS is a novel little app which offers an alternative way of sharing trivial snippets of your life with the world.

With GLMPS, the user takes photos and shares them with the world. What’s novel about it is that the app automatically captures the few seconds leading up to the photo as well, so that with every photo you share, you also share a little video.

This is a concept that has potential. As the saying that I invented goes, ‘while a video may not say the whole story, it says a hell of a lot more than a photo,’ and with GLMPS you get given an interesting little insight into whatever photo it is that you’re viewing.

The app interface is a bit simplistic, with users only being able to search through popular pic/video submissions or those of their social network friends. Seeing as I don’t have any friends who own this relatively obscure app, and I’m not interested in sharing intimate little clips of my life with complete strangers, there isn’t that much that I can do here. Searching for users’ submissions by some kinds of tags or topics would certainly make GLMPS more purposeful.

But many will argue that purposelessness is a purpose in itself with such apps. For those of this disposition, GLMPS will suit them perfectly. You can easily link your account with all the major social networking sites, and there is something poignant about being able to see the few moments building up to a photo.

It may be a bit too uninhibited for a social recluse like me, but with a bit of refinement, GLMPS could become, if not the next big thing, a welcome addition to the world of social networking.
