Green Genie is a great app for those granola-crunchy types who have to stop riding their bikes every ten feet in order to go hug a tree. It’s intended for those who want to reduce their carbon footprint in the world, so I predict that it won’t be a big seller in America where the only thing keeping people from buying SUVs was $4 per gallon for gasoline. This could be a factor regarding why the app is being released for free during its first week.
The app is pretty much a reference manual and an aggregator of resources for keeping green as well as providing tools such as a carbon footprint calculator. It offers DIY suggestions for around your home to reduce energy costs and sustain the planet. It even has a glossary for those green terms that you don’t understand. You can rub the lamp to get more information about certain topics. It’s all stuff you could look up online, but it’s nice to have the information in one location.
I did have trouble trying to use the carbon footprint calculator. When I tapped the button, it wouldn’t launch. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with my device or the program but I felt I should mention it.
If the creators are so concerned about saving the planet, I’d recommending keeping this app for free indefinitely. In doing so, they might be able to convince more people to go green.
