DJs used to require massive amounts of equipment to play their music. Now they just need an iPod Touch. With apps like Groovemaker Electro, you no longer need to be a musician to actually make music. You do not need to know things like chords or notes. You just need a beat.
When the app begins, you’re given a selection of named songs to choose (you can purchase more at additional cost) with names like "Contamination" and "Nuclear Headed Missile". Each song takes a minute or three to unpack itself once selected. Once prepared, you can control each track of the song, layer them, and do various other tricks (there can be up to 8 tracks).
Not being a DJ, I’m not exactly sure what to do with this. I was sort of hoping to create music, but the app seems to only let the user manipulate the chosen songs. Not that it’s a bad thing, with three or four songs, you have enough content to keep a rave going all night. Each button controls an aspect of the music and/or a special effect. I do like playing around with the buttons and doing neat tricks with the sounds, but I’m definately not a DJ, so I think someone whos more musically inclined might be able to manipulate the sounds and samples much better than I was able to. I only wish it came with a better instruction manual for amateur DJs.
The interface is straight forward, so if you have some experience in this sort of thing, you will get up to speed pretty quickly.
At the price of $9.99 (which includes 4 songs), this app can be said to be a niche product. If you’re a DJ or DJ-wannabe, this one is for you.
(On a side note, I showed this app to a friend who actually was a DJ and she was really impressed with it.)

Would I Buy Again:Probably not, but I have no DJ aspirations.

What I Don't Like:Price. Difficult to learn for beginners.
Final Statement:Good for DJs. Everyone else may want to skip.
