I’m not a big fan of photo-editing software for iPad/iPhone. But of course, I have not checked everything, and developers can always surprise me. I was able to grab HalfTone for free a few days ago, and it has been surprisingly fun and incredibly effective.

HalfTone is a neat photo editing software (universal app, works both in iPad and iPhone) to add an aged half-tone effect to photos. They’ll look almost like cartoons from the 50s, with those orange-and-yellow Beware! and Noooooo!. Instead of Batman falling around, you can add these captions to your pictures from your holidays.

With plenty of fonts, pre-made stamps and papers, HalfTone is a neat and effective way to add some "looks" to run-of-the-mill pictures you can take with your iPhone or iPad 2, or to have a funny afternoon adding fun captions to keep your friends a little more entertained in those 2 hours slideshows you love to prepare for them.

The app is being constantly improved by the developers: they recently added a few suggestions by users (in-app cropping, full-size editing) and can be seamlessly connected to Twitter or Facebook to share your pictures without any hassle. They can even be printed through AirPrint.

It is a cheap application, but very well-done and effective. It won’t hurt to have it around for when you need it: it can save a boring Sunday afternoon and turn it into something else, more 50s style with lots of Booom! and Hahahahaha.
