User Rating:iCeramic Art should be called by what it actually is: 3D modeling. In it, you take a basic geometric shape and pull, push and twist it until it becomes something else.
The program begins by taking you to the List, which is a listing of all projects you have created. You add a new project and can choose your starting shape as sphere, cylinder or cube. It is also possible to rotate the object to view it from pretty much any angle. In the case of a sphere or cube, different color lines highlight the current axis.
Perhaps it is because I’m not a ceramics expert or even a ceramics student, but I found this application very difficult to use. I tried fiddling with the controls to figure out what each button does, but I couldn’t figure out how to actually change the shape. While the help file does explain what each button does, it doesn’t give a process under which one can create a vase or other ceramic project.
On the plus side, the 3D modeling and rotation capabilities are top-notch. I had no problem figuring out what I was looking at or the angle.
In short, the app is a good idea that needs work. I consider myself pretty technical and if I can’t get a basic understanding of shaping the clay while using the application, then the layman is going to give up by the time the application has been running for a minute.
If the instructions for the app ever become clearer, then iCeramic Art might be worth it. Until then, I’d give it a pass.
