As a DYI’er (Do-it-Yourself-er), I’m very comfortable with my local hardware store.  But because I don’t do this for a living, I very often forget the various types of wood that are out there. 

 What does the grain look like? What can I use it for?  It may sound simple, but I forget.

 So I was pleasantly surprised by I.D. Wood.  It’s a simple idea really; it’s a set of “flash cards” with information about various types of wood.  It’s a great example of filling a niche.

 Sure I could bring pictures of the wood to the local Home Depot, or even ask a salesman his opinion.  But the ability to carry the reference material in my pocket empowers me to make the choice myself.

 I found I.D. Wood to be a handy tool.  It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but what it does it does in a straightforward easy to use manner.

Would I Buy Again:  Yes

Learning Curve: None—if you can swipe your finger, and select from a list, you can use this app

Who Is It For: Do-it-yourself-ers and people that like to do wood work.  (It’s also good in the planning stages when starting a new project!)

What I Like:  The pictures are clear and the information is easy to use. 

What I Don’t: Nothing that I can think of

Final Statement: $2.99 might seem a little high priced for an app, but I.D. Wood is worth it.  The information and images proved to be extremely useful when selecting wood for my next project..
