This game is a modern version of the arcade classic Asteroids.  The objective of that game was to avoid a bunch of rocks in space.  This is the same goal, but along with rocks there are loads of other obstacles including other ships that fire weapons.  Armed with no weapons of your own, you need to get across a finish line without getting blown up by one of the other space obstacles.

Space Ninja does use the unique properties of the iPhone and iPod Touch to its advantage.  In order to steer the ship around the obstacles, you have to tilt the device in that direction.  You can even reverse course by tilting down.  It’s one of the few games I’ve played in which the user doesn’t have to tap the screen (except to start, stop and pause the game).

The graphics are very good and the premise is simple enough to keep anybody who needs a game to kill time occupied for hours.  If they added weaponry to the ship and allowed it to return fire, it could become a modified version of Space Invaders.  As with all games and me, it gets tiring quickly.  For free, it was worth the price.  I leave it to you to decide if its worth $1.99.

Pros: Good graphics.  Simple game.

Cons:  Redundant.  Grows old quickly.
