College football is followed by die hards (like myself) who bleed their team colors and because of this they need an app that does the same.  iLove College Football is not that app.

The only upside to this app is the shear amount of information that it provides.  Every conference from the major players like the SEC and the Big-10 to the smaller Colonial and Big Sky have scores and standings at the tip of your fingers.

When looking at a college football app as a college football fan there are four main things you want: scores, stats, major news and all three national rankings.  This gives you three of the four, leaving out stats, but does a good job with the rest.  It does update fairly quickly on game day with up-to-date scores from all around the nation.

Aside from that, this app is sub-par.  Visually it’s very bland.  There is practically no color aside from white, black, yellow and shades of grey.  There are also no graphics, aside from a very cool looking icon, such as team logos.

The interface is fairly easy to use but presents a series of other issues.  First it doesn’t automatically bring you to the current week scores, meaning you will need to scroll through them and use some guess work if you don’t know which week it is.  Without a good knowledge of college football finding the game your looking for can be rather difficult.

Second there are some instances where ads take up nearly half the screen.  While it’s only a small thing it can be rather distracting.

Finally the biggest issue is that it does run slowly even through a wifi network.  Loading between pages, changing conferences and checking scores for various games takes much longer then it should.  If you are following more then one game on a busy Saturday they better be in the same conference otherwise be ready to wait.

In short the information is great but the overall app is not.  There are other sports apps and college football apps that are better in almost every aspect.

Quick Take

Value: Good, if you are only looking for information.
Would I Buy Again: No, there are better options out there.
Learning Curve: Moderate, but a knowledge of college football makes it easier.
Who is it for: Hardcore college football fans.
What I like: Large amount of information, all conferences covered.
What I Don’t: Overall look, can run slowly, large ads.

Final Statement:
Decent app considering all the information it provides but there are better apps out there that provide the same information plus much more.
